Is an export-spec Chinese car always legal in my country?
No. Export-spec means a vehicle was configured for an overseas market, but the target country may still require its own type approval, inspection, emissions, steering, lighting and registration evidence. Match the exact approval documents to the exact destination before purchase.
Can a China-market EV be converted from GB/T to CCS2?
Sometimes an engineered conversion may be available, but a connector change alone does not prove protocol, voltage, thermal, protection or public-network compatibility. Treat it as a documented conversion project and test the exact vehicle on representative destination chargers before payment.
What is the biggest software risk on a China-market vehicle?
The biggest risk is losing functions that depend on a China-region account, SIM, map, cloud service or manufacturer update channel. Record the current software version and test navigation, app pairing, remote functions and update support without assuming they will work abroad.
Does changing the display language make a car export-spec?
No. Language is only one visible layer. Charging hardware, radio bands, telematics, lighting, safety approval, parts catalogue, warranty and software region can remain China-specific. Complete the twelve-check audit even when the menu is already in English.
Which differences are usually deal-breakers?
Unresolvable registration or type-approval gaps, prohibited steering position, unsupported charging, missing ownership/export documents and safety-critical parts or software failures can block the purchase. Cosmetic language or cable differences may be easier, but still need a costed solution.
How should an importer compare two versions of the same model?
Compare VIN-linked equipment codes, inlet photographs, onboard-charger data, software region, lighting markings, type-approval documents, warranty territory and parts identifiers side by side. Choose the version with the lower total integration risk, not simply the lower vehicle price.
