According to previous public reports, the widely-watched "fuel consumption dispute incident of Fangchengbao Bao 5" stemmed from a video released in 2023 by automotive blogger Yao * Qiang. In the video, Yao claimed that while driving the newly-launched Fangchengbao Bao 5 on the highway, he recorded a fuel consumption figure as high as 18L/100km. This data stood in stark contrast to the officially advertised fuel consumption of 7.8L/100km under power depletion conditions, creating a sensation akin to a blockbuster explosion online and instantly sparking heated discussions and doubts among numerous netizens.
As the incident continued to unfold, Fangchengbao Automobile responded swiftly. The brand released back-end data, which served as a mirror reflecting the truth behind the incident. The data revealed that the vehicle involved had experienced several periods of severe speeding during its journey: there were three time intervals where the speed exceeded 180km/h, far surpassing the legal speed limit on Chinese highways; and six time intervals where the speed exceeded 170km/h. In terms of speed range distribution, the proportion of time spent in the 120-140km/h range exceeded 37%, the proportion in the 140-160km/h range exceeded 46%, and the proportion of time spent exceeding 160km/h also exceeded 4%. Additionally, the vehicle had made multiple abnormal stops during the trip.
In its response, Fangchengbao Automobile unequivocally pointed out that such driving behavior not only seriously violated traffic regulations but also demonstrated a blatant disregard for public safety. At the same time, the brand firmly stated that it would not tolerate such malicious attempts to tarnish its reputation. The brand would directly resort to legal means to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests, set the record straight, and restore a fair and objective reputation for the brand.
