Dong Mingzhu: Half of GAC's automotive chips can be replaced by Gree.

Recently, Feng Yin, Assistant President of Gree Electric Appliances and General Manager of Zhuhai Gree Electronic Components Co., Ltd., revealed publicly that Gree Electric Appliances' silicon carbide chip factory will begin mass production of silicon carbide chips for photovoltaic energy storage and logistics vehicles this year. A few days ago, Gree Electric Appliances Chairman Dong Mingzhu jokingly remarked during a meeting with GAC Group Chairman Feng Xingya that in the future, half of the chips used in GAC's automobiles will be replaced by Gree products.

Gree's silicon carbide chip factory broke ground in December 2022 and began production by the end of 2023, with a planned annual production capacity of 240,000 6-inch silicon carbide wafers in its first phase. By 2025, Gree Electric Appliances' cumulative chip sales will exceed 300 million units. Gree's silicon carbide chips have already been installed in over 2 million air conditioners.

"Silicon carbide and gallium nitride compound semiconductors have low energy consumption, high frequency resistance, and small size, which makes power adapters smaller and can expand applications in various industries," said Feng Yin. He added that applications such as car charging piles and modules that can provide 200 kilometers of range with just 5 minutes of charging, as well as super energy stations, need to be explored and developed.
