Estimated practical range
The estimator is a multiplication chain, not a hidden prediction
Planning factors are conservative defaults for comparison. They can never represent every vehicle, route, tyre, load, battery temperature or driving style.
Official test-cycle range or a buyer's observed baseline.
Visible conversion factor selected by the user.
Capacity condition from an exact-unit diagnostic report.
Speed, gradient and load scenario.
HVAC impact and a remaining trip buffer.
Why the cold scenario is deliberately severe
A 2024 U.S. Department of Energy laboratory record reported an average 41% BEV range decrease at 20°F in its tested conditions. The same report explains that HVAC load and battery chemistry contribute to the change.

Listed range is only the first input. Ask for battery diagnostics, charging evidence and exact vehicle condition.
Used EV range FAQ
Use the output to design a test, not to replace one.
How does the used EV range estimator work?
It multiplies rated range by a disclosed test-cycle factor, battery SOH, route factor and climate/HVAC factor, then subtracts the selected trip reserve.
Is battery SOH the same as remaining driving range?
No. SOH estimates remaining battery capacity, while real range also depends on test cycle, speed, temperature, HVAC, terrain, load, tyres and driving behaviour.
Why is CLTC range reduced in the estimator?
Official test cycles are produced under defined laboratory procedures and are not interchangeable with a buyer's route. The calculator exposes an editable planning factor instead of presenting rated range as guaranteed road range.
How much range can an EV lose in cold weather?
The effect varies by vehicle and conditions. A 2024 U.S. Department of Energy laboratory record found an average 41% BEV range decrease at 20 degrees Fahrenheit in its tested conditions, which is why the tool provides a separate climate factor.
Can this calculator replace a battery scan and test drive?
No. Use it for scenario planning, then confirm the exact vehicle with a battery diagnostic report, charging test and controlled road test.
Estimator reviewed 2026-08-17. Results are planning scenarios, not guaranteed range, battery capacity, warranty or vehicle diagnosis. Verify SOH, usable capacity, charging, thermal management and real-road performance on the exact vehicle.
