BAW 81 2.0 Co-creation Edition Makes Debut; Mass-produced Version to Launch Pre-sales at Beijing Auto Show & Hit Market on August 1st

On January 15th, the BAW 81 2.0 Co-creation Edition, a model under BAIC Off-Road, officially made its debut. Meanwhile, Fanghe Zhen Di (Square Box Position), the official WeChat Mini Program for BAW 81 member users, was also launched.

According to official information, the mass-produced models will be divided into two variants: Standard Version and Professional Version. They will be officially unveiled and pre-sales will kick off at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show in April, with the official market launch scheduled for August 1st of the same year.

As can be seen from the official images, the new car features a hardcore off-road square-box design and has been codenamed the "Tactical Square Box" by the manufacturer. Compared with the 1.0 version, the raised hood of the BAW 81 2.0 Co-creation Edition is slightly toned down, while the iconic five-hole front grille is retained. A red LED light module is embedded in each hole of the grille.

The headlight assemblies on both sides of the vehicle adopt the design concept of "Heaven Round, Earth Square"—with square outer casings paired with round lamp cores. They are also equipped with five segmented curved LED daytime running lights and five interspersed turn signal strips, fully incorporating the "number 5" design motif in the details.

In terms of the side profile, the new car has a relatively slender overall proportion while still adhering to the angular square-box design philosophy. A waistline runs through the entire side of the vehicle. The front and rear fenders are fitted with flared wheel arches, and the car is also equipped with newly designed double seven-spoke wheels, with red brake calipers hidden inside, lending a dynamic touch to the overall look.

At the rear, five segmented high-mounted brake lights are embedded at the end of the roof. The trunk adopts a clamshell-style double-door design, commonly known as the "Guanyin Door" in the Chinese market. In response to co-creation demands from users, the 2.0 version has replaced the external spare tire with an external storage box.

In addition, the taillight assemblies of the new car adopt a four-square design. The rear bumper is wider and thicker in shape and comes with a trailer hitch. No further details regarding the interior and powertrain have been disclosed yet, and we will await subsequent official announcements.
