What is China's 180-day used car export rule in 2026?
From 1 January 2026, a vehicle submitted for export within 180 days of its registration date requires an after-sales service confirmation issued and stamped by the vehicle manufacturer. Without that document, the local authority should not issue the export licence. The rule is based on registration age, not the model year shown in an advertisement.
Does a vehicle older than 180 days automatically qualify for export?
No. Passing the 180-day threshold only removes that specific manufacturer-confirmation trigger. The exporter still needs the normal registration, transfer, export-licence, inspection and customs documentation, and the vehicle must also satisfy destination-country import and registration requirements.
What should an overseas buyer request before paying a deposit?
Request the VIN, first-registration date, registration certificate, transfer-for-export date, third-party inspection report, exporter identity, draft export-licence data and the manufacturer after-sales confirmation when the vehicle is 180 days old or less. Is the China export licence the same as destination import approval?
