Buy the POER Commercial or King Kong Cannon when a diesel 4WD long bed is the job requirement. Move to a Passenger or Shanhai derivative when cabin comfort matters more, and choose an Off-road Cannon only when its locks, clearance and protection will actually be used. For a lower-cost paved-road work truck, a Wingle 5 or Wingle 7 can be the more rational purchase.
The 2023 POER Commercial long-bed 4WD diesel is the default choice for a buyer who needs one pickup to carry cargo and handle poor access roads. The 2023 King Kong Cannon is the closest GWM alternative when the long-bed work format is still non-negotiable. Choose the Shanhai Cannon only after confirming the exact towing rating, transmission, axle ratio and destination approval for that VIN; a model name is not a tow certificate.

Current official models help explain the family structure, but they do not certify a used 2019 or 2023 vehicle. Treat the following numbers as decision context and verify the actual unit by VIN and manufacturer plate.
GWM's official 2023 Commercial POER article lists a 1,760 x 1,520 x 540 mm cargo box, a 3,230/3,470 mm wheelbase range and a GW4D20M diesel reference with 120 kW net output and 400 Nm. These figures explain why the long-bed Commercial is the work baseline, not why every POER has those numbers.
The current official King Kong Cannon page lists diesel torque up to 400 Nm, 6MT or 8AT choices, an extra-long 1,820 mm cargo box and turning radii of 5.95 m for the standard box and 6.4 m for the long box. The longer bed improves load length but demands more yard space.
The current Passenger Cannon page emphasizes 2.4 diesel/9AT and 2.0 petrol/8AT choices plus cabin technology. The current Off-road page adds intelligent 4WD, MLOCK, 228 mm clearance, 700 mm stated wading depth, nine drive modes and front/rear locks. That hardware has value only if condition and actual use justify it.
GWM's Australia-specific POER Sahar release states 135 kW, 480 Nm, a 9-speed automatic and 3.5-ton towing. It is evidence that a market-homologated derivative can tow at that level, not permission to assign the same rating to a China-market Shanhai or POER without its plate and documents.

Shortlist only vehicles with a VIN-specific tow rating, hitch rating, cooling inspection, brake condition and combined-mass compliance. A badge or overseas-market brochure is not enough.
